This dish is made out of Canadian western red cedar wood which has not been sealed or stained. It is a highly durable wood resistant to moisture and decay without any chemical treatment, which is why it is often used as the wood in saunas.
Important maintenance care information:
It contains tannins (natural vegetable colorants found in wine, fruit, veggies, etc.) which will slightly stain your dish, soap, or countertops in the first few weeks of usage.
Tannins are acid-soluble and can be cleaned by soaking your dish in a citric acid (or vinegar) and soap for a few hours. After a few soakings, the outer tannins will be leached out and will not stain your soap while inner tannins remain to provide optimum protection.
